From your personal desktop or laptop, you can can access your home directory by setting up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection. Once connected to the campus network, you can map a network drive to access it, or use any Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) program to access your files. Note: You only need to establish a VPN connection while off campus (at home, while traveling, from a coffee shop, etc.). Connecting to the VPN while on campus is unnecessary.

To use FTP, you will need a secure file transfer program.SecureFX is used in ITaP PC labs and is available for free download at http://www.purdue.edu/securePurdue/download/. For more information on SecureFX please visit http://www.purdue.edu/goldanswers/176306.Fetch is used in the ITaP Mac labs and is available for free download at http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/free. Fetch is free to all Purdue faculty, students and staff by filling out the education license request form.Use mace.itap.purdue.edu for the server name and log in with your Purdue Career Account login and password. Use port 22 if your FTP program requires you to enter port information.

UNIX Access
UNIX can also be used to access your home directory. Your Career Account login and password can be used to log in to:
- guru.itap.purdue.edu (Faculty)
- maven.itap.purdue.edu (Students)
UNIX access requires the use of a program that supports Secure Shell (SSH), which will give you access to a variety of tools, including the ability to access your MySQL database account.
