There are four hoofdvakken which take place in the Verenigde Staten. The Masters is gespeeld at the same course, Augusta National Golf Club, elk jaar, terwijl de andere drie banen roteren (het open kampioenschap, echter, is always gespeeld op een links course).

De men’s major golf championships, commonly known as the major championships,often referred to simply as the majors, are the four most prestigious annual tournaments in professional golf. In order of play date as of 2019, zij zijn:

May – PGA Championship (weekend prior to Memorial Day weekend)– hosted by the PGA of America and played at various locations in the U.S.
June – U.S. Open (weekend ending third Sunday in June, or Father’s Day)– hosted by the United States Golf Association (USGA), played at various locations in the U.S.
July – The Open Championship (week containing the third Friday in July)– hosted by The R&EEN (an offshoot of, and based at the same address as, The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews) and always played on a links course at one of ten locations in the U.K.
