The University Of Manitoba was founded in 1877 as the first University of Western Canada, it is located in Winnipeg, capital of the Canadian province of Manitoba.
It is a research-intensive public university.

The university serves about 30,000 students, and about 15 percent of its students are international students from 111 countries.
It offers an extensive study abroad program in which students can choose from 36 countries to participate in study, internship or exchange programs.
The university also boasts one of Canada’s largest aboriginal student populations, admitting more than 2,000 First Nations, Métis and Inuit students each year.
Manitoba offers more than 100 degree programs, and most of its academic departments include graduate programs.
The university’s 19 libraries house more than 2.5 million books. This includes more than 700,000 e-books and 70,000 journals.
Images, letters, books, newspapers, videos and sound recordings are available in the university’s digital collection. With nearly 27,000 volumes, the Icelandic Collection is the second-largest collection of Icelandic materials in North America and the largest in Canada.
The university attracts thousands of visitors each year and supports more than 20,000 local jobs. It claims that for every dollar it spends, $1.85 is generated for the local economy.
In the sports arena, Bison Sports, as Manitoba teams are known, has more than 360 athletes competing in nine disciplines as part of Canada’s elite intercollegiate athletics programs. Bison teams have won 42 Canadian National Intercollegiate Sports (CIS) Championships, and the men’s soccer team has more alumni on professional sports teams than any other CIS team.
A total of 98 Manitoba students have been awarded Rhodes Scholarships – more than any other university in Western Canada.
The Manitoba Alumni Network has more than 132,000 alumni in 131 countries, and in 2014 Manitoba alumni and friends donated $26.6 million to the network.
