Teach Me How To Setup HP Wireless Printer

HP Auto Wireless Connect is a technology that allows you to automatically connect your printer to a wireless network without having to connect any cables or enter wireless network parameters such as a network name or password. Many new HP printers will have this feature during the standard software installation process.

To use this option, install the printer software and follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted, select the connection type ” network (Ethernet/Wireless)”, and then select”Yes, send My wireless settings to the printer (recommended)”. That’s it! HP software will do the rest.

Not all computers or network configurations are compatible with HP Auto Wireless Connect. In these cases, you will be offered an alternative method for configuring your wireless network. To be compatible with HP Auto Wireless Connect, you must meet the following requirements:

Your computer uses Windows Vista (and later) and Mac OS X 10.5 (and later).
Your computer uses a wireless network connection, and the operating system manages the wireless adapter so that HP software can get your computer’s current network settings.
Your computer is connected to a network with a frequency greater than 2.4 GHz. Note: HP printers are not compatible with 5.0 GHz networks. You may still be able to connect the printer to the network using other configuration methods if your router also supports 2.4 GHz (like most others). Your computer does not use a static IP address
The printer is in HP automatic wireless connection mode. The printer will remain in this mode for two hours after it is first turned on during installation, before it is connected to the network. The Council: If the printer was turned on more than two hours ago and the software has not yet tried to connect the printer to a wireless network, you can reset this mode using the “restore network settings” or “restore default network settings” option on the printer’s control panel. You can usually find it in the network menu or by touching the wireless network icon (or button) and then going to Settings or the gear icon. For more information, see the printer documentation.

Other environmental and technical factors may also affect whether HP Auto Wireless Connect is offered.

If HP Auto Wireless Connect is offered during printer installation, this is the recommended installation method. Part of the installation process requires that your computer be temporarily disconnected from the wireless network. During this time, you will not have Internet access. Be sure to save all online work and / or downloads before continuing with this installation method.

If HP Auto Wireless Connect is not offered during the software installation, or if it is not successful, you will be prompted to use a different method for configuring your wireless network.

WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) – WPS has two modes for connecting devices together over a wireless connection. One is called a “button” and the other is called a “pin”. The button is by far the easiest method. We will describe how to connect using the WPS button method, but not the pin method.

For instructions on starting WPS on the printer, see See the printer’s user guide. However, there are some conditions that must be met to use the WPS button mode:

Your printer and wireless router must support the WPS button Mode function. Refer to the operating instructions for the printer and wireless router.
The wireless router must have a physical WPS button.
Your network must use WPA or WPA2 security. Most WPS wireless routers will not connect using the WPS method if WEP is used or there is no security.
Most WPS wireless routers will not connect using the WPS method if you use the manufacturer’s default network name and no security.

To connect a wireless printer to a wireless router using WPS:

Start the WPS button mode on your printer.

Within 2 minutes, Click the WPS button on your router.

The Wireless Setup Wizard, which you run from the printer’s control panel. (Not available for printers without a touch display)

Make sure you know your network name and your security password (WEP, WPA, or WPA2).
On the printer’s control panel, go to the Network menu or touch the wireless icon and then go to settings. Select Wireless-the wireless network setup wizard that you run from the printer’s control panel. (Not available for printers without a touch screen)

Note: you can access the settings by tapping the spanner icon, depending on the product model.

Select a wireless network name from the list.
If you don’t see your wireless network in the list, you can enter your network name manually by scrolling to the end of the list. If you enter the name manually, it must be accurate, including uppercase and lowercase characters.
Enter your WEP key or WPA passphrase. You must enter the exact key or passphrase, including uppercase and lowercase characters. The printer must be connected to a wireless network. If it doesn’t connect, you can print the wireless network test report that Setup Wizard uses. The Wireless Setup Wizard displays a list of wireless networks in the area.

Note: Settings may be accessed by touching a wrench icon, depending on the product model.

Select your wireless network’s name from the list.
If you don’t see your wireless network listed, you can enter your network name manually by scrolling to the bottom of the list. If you enter the name manually it must be exact, including upper and lower case characters.
Enter your WEP key or WPA passphrase. You must enter the key or passphrase exactly, including upper and lower case characters. Your printer should connect to your wireless network. If it does not connect, you are given the opportunity to print a Wireless Network Test report that will help you find out what may be wrong.
